What if my phone does not support it?
- Borrow an eSIM-capable phone from a travel companion and share its hotspot — most of our plans allow tethering.
- Buy a physical SIM at the destination airport. More expensive and you queue, but it always works.
- Rent a portable Wi-Fi router if you travel as a group — split between people it is cheap.
Frequently asked questions
My phone has eSIM but it is carrier-locked. Will it work?
No. A carrier-locked phone only accepts SIMs and eSIMs from the carrier that locked it. You need to unlock it first, or use another device.
Will installing an eSIM remove my main SIM?
No. The eSIM is a separate, second line. Your home SIM stays in the phone and keeps receiving calls and bank OTP messages — just turn off its mobile data to avoid roaming charges.
How many eSIMs can one phone hold?
Most phones store several eSIM profiles (recent iPhones store eight or more) but only one or two can be active at a time. You can install eSIMs for a whole multi-country trip in advance and switch between them.
What about phones sold in mainland China?
Usually not supported — many manufacturers disable eSIM on mainland China models. Dial *#06# and check for an EID before buying a plan.
Can I use a travel eSIM on a smartwatch?
Technically yes, but travel eSIMs are data-only profiles configured for phones. Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch use carrier-linked eSIMs and cannot install a travel eSIM.
